My Autistic Perspective on Birthdays and Aging

Birthday cheers to many more years!

"I'm still standin' better than I ever did. Lookin' like a true survivor, feelin' like a little kid." - Sir Elton John, I'm Still Standing, 1983

I recently celebrated my birthday, and I've long reached that point in life where the only gifts I need to be happy are the health, safety, and prosperity I'm blessed with, the hobbies I enjoy, and the company of my loved ones. Personally, I have zero issues with "getting older", as I consider another trip around the sun to be a blessing. After all, we can't fly away to Neverland to escape the aging process. The only folks who are bathed in eternal youth are those who die young, sadly. As such, I feel we owe it to the dearly departed to appreciate every birthday we get to celebrate and live our lives to the fullest in their memory (until the day we meet again).

However, while we can't fly away to Neverland, nor control our physical age, we can certainly control how old we are at heart. No matter how many birthdays I've celebrated, I always feel like the same person I was as a kid, teenager, and young adult (though, I now feel like the Tin Man at times, haha). I've never viewed age as a barrier to forming friendships with those born either before or after my age demographic and feel we can learn much from those of all generations. So, in closing, I'd like to express my gratitude to my family, friends, and followers for being the greatest birthday presents I could ever hope for. Thank you all so much for being part of my life, and here's to many more birthdays for each of us. Cheers!
